A day-long open house for families, first-time visitors, and opera lovers to explore, play, and enjoy hands-on activities and live performance up close.
DENVER, CO—Opera Colorado welcomes the community to experience the art of opera and the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in a whole new way during Family Day at Opera Colorado, a vibrant day-long open house designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection for visitors of all ages.
With one ticket unlocking the entire day, guests are free to come and go, explore behind the scenes, and experience opera at their own pace. This year, Family Day features two lively, abridged performances perfect for families and first-time audiences: The Pirates of Penzance at 10:30 a.m. and Romeo & Juliet at 2:00 p.m., performed by Opera Colorado's Artists in Residence.
Between performances, the opera house transforms into an interactive playground of music and discovery. Families can meet the cast, step onstage for hands-on activities and artist show-and-tell, explore costumes and props in a petting zoo, and enjoy creative lobby experiences that offer rare, up-close access to the artistry that brings opera to life.
Tickets are available on a Pay What You Wish basis, including a $0 option, ensuring every family can participate while providing an opportunity for those who are able to support Opera Colorado’s community programming.
"Family Day is about opening the doors wide and saying, come in," said Dennis Robinson, Jr., Director of Programs & Partnerships at Opera Colorado. "It’s a chance to explore, to play, and to experience the magic of live performance together. Whether you’re discovering opera for the very first time, introducing it to your children, or returning as a lifelong fan, this is a space built for community. Step inside, ignite your imagination, and share in the joy, wonder, and connection that only experiencing live performance as a community can create."
Designed for all ages, Family Day invites guests to come in costume, share the experience, and create joyful memories together.
